Doctor #10: [DrTuna] A wandering Timelord in search of his
past.
Irish: [Rob] A morphing, telepathic green cat, companion to the Doctor
Jacinda "Jacie" Hunter: [Jen K] A teen orphan raised by the Space Time
Gypsies, companion to the Doctor.
Theta Sigma [Doctor #1, DrTuna]: In the middle of his first lifespan, this
Doctor is just starting to show some gray. He dresses simply in black and white
and gray, eschewing the fancy garb of the Timelords and his Prydonian College.
He is different from the Doctor we know of later lives. He is more
cautious and less adventurous. He has yet to experience the wonders of wandering
through space and time, and is more a product of being raised amidst Timelord
society. He has been married to Lora for some time, they have a daughter who has
grown up and is expecting a child after marrying a recluse Timelord who lives a
simple life in the mountains of the southern hemisphere. He is devoted to
Lora, but is fearful of her visions and plans for Gallifrey. He wants a quiet
and happy life with her, not a future of rearranging the universe for the
better. The other Timelords recognize that he is very skillful and inherently
powerful, but they also know that he is not particularly ambitious in a
political sense.
Loradneuropea: [Jen K] At the top of her class at the Academy, she is one of the
most talented, most focused, and most skilled of all the Timelords of Gallifrey.
She is older than the Doctor, and has not long ago undergone a regeneration, one
of the first among the inner circle of the Timelords to experience such a
change. She was older than the Doctor when they first met, but they fell in love
and were married in a whirlwind of emotion, an event unique in the lives of both
Theta and Lora. She was a close confidant of Omega and is sorrowful at his
accidental death during the creation of the time travel facility through
capturing the power of a neuron star. Her vision is to use the power and energy
of Gallifrey to benefit all life in the universe - preventing planetary
disasters, mass genocides, and other catastrophes. While not advocating
technology transfers and interference in the development of other cultures, she
is determined to use the power of Gallifrey to halt the expansion of cruel
empires and mass human ri
Rassilon: Ruler of Gallifrey, hero of the war against the
vampires, the one who released the regeneration virus on Gallifrey [resulting in
the death of many and the transformation of the rest into a new species capable
of regeneration], and the organizational genius behind the creation of the time
travel facility, the Panopticon, the Matrix, and the use of neuron stars as a
power source. He is the one who arranged Omega's "accidental death"
[actually, he was flung into the antimatter universe]. He uses his almost
legendary record to his political benefit, and prides himself at being the
creator of Timelord society. He is unsure, however, of which direction to take
Gallifrey -- be falters between the competing visions of Lora's "universal
nurturing" and the "universal empire" proposed by Morbius. Gimel
is his loyal henchman, or so he believes. He relies on advice from Omicron and
Zamona.
Gimel: Henchman of Rassilon, but really a follower of Morbius. He helped
Rassilon rise to power by doing his dirty work, such as arresting Pandax and
other Gallifreyans who stood in Rassilon's way. He is a born follower but
willing to defend his turf. He is merciless. Gimel later escapes from Gallifrey
after Morbius' plot to unseat Rassilon fails. Eventually he becomes the head of
the Troygon Corporation (Chairman Gimbel], and meets his end on he planet Adam
Smith in the adventure "Market Forces."
Morbius: A powerful, ambitious, and unprincipled Timelord. He lusts for empire
and control. He detests the way in which Timelord society is developing under
Rassilon. He has recently published a treatise called The Universal Empire where
he outlines his plan to use the power of Gallifrey to dominate and rule all of
space and time. Eventually he is exiled from Gallifrey by Rassilon after a
failed coup and moves from planet to planet wrecking havoc with his empire
building ways. Eventually he is caught and tried by the Timelords on Karn and is
executed, supposedly. Actually, his brain is saved and an attempt is made by
Solon to place it in a new body, but this fails and Morbius meets his end in the
adventure The Brain of Morbius. High forehead, cruel face, medium build (see
bust in Brain of Morbius).
Zamona: A quiet and reclusive Timelord, she has unique abilities. Her voice has
special telepathic powers in that she can use it to influence and direct almost
anyone who listens to her (the voice of authority). Because she respects others
she almost never uses this power, but she is still respected and feared for it.
Rassilon relies on her and respects her judgment, but also sees her as a weapon
to be kept in reserve. She is tall with long, straight black hair. Her eyes are
bottomless and her voice soft but commanding. She is a friend of Theta and Lora,
but is concerned about Lora's plans, not to mention those of Morbius. She meets
the Doctor again in Kobe, Japan in the adventure Madame Fatal, where she
vanishes during the Kobe earthquake, but there is no indication whether she
perished or not.
Omicron: A valiant general of Rassilon who campaigned successfully during the
vampire wars, he is a dedicated soldier. He is obsessed with the chain of
command and with orders being followed. He serves Rassilon, who is his
commander, and distrusts others who are not military or appear undisciplined. He
longs for a life of command, duty, and heroism, and is concerned about the
future of Timelord society. While tempted by the plans of Morbius, he cannot
accept such a maniac as hi commander, and remains loyal to Rassilon. He meets
the Doctor and his companions on his artificial planet in the adventure The
Order of Omicron and there meets his end.
Susanamonea: The daughter of Theta and Lora, she is a very free spirit and
always chooses her own path. She fell in love with a literary recluse and lives
in the Southern Hemisphere mountain home far from Gallifreyan society. She is
expecting a child, and is anxious to share this with her parents. She will, of
course, give birth to a daughter who will eventually leave Gallifrey with Theta.
THE ANCIENT DAYS:
After the war with the vampires, victorious Rassilon rules Timelord society. He
has introduced the regeneration gene (see Return to Gallifrey) which cost many
lives but gave the Timelords the ability to live through many lifespans. He
worked with Omega to establish the time travel facility powered by a captured
neutron star. Gallifrey now has incredible power but no mission. Rassilon has
called for a society-wide discussion of the new role for Gallifrey in the
universe, and the controversy rages between the nurturing view of Lora and the
dominating view of Morbius. Rassilon has not taken sides as of yet. The citadel
and Panopticon are newly built and the impermeable transduction barriers are in
place, guaranteeing the safety of Gallifrey. But what now?
THE DISTANT FUTURE:
Gallifrey is abandoned and empty. Everything remains in place, the systems still
operating, but the Timelords have gone and no one has replaced them. In an
attempt to enter the Matrix to find the real events of his past, the Doctor has
chosen this far distant future as the time when he will be able to crack the
seals put on the Matrix to hide his past from him.
EPISODE ONE: FUTURE INTO PAST
Part one sets up the rest of the story. It should not last longer than 60
minutes at the maximum. This episode is for character development and set-up for
the rest of the story. Feel free to improvise and have run embellishing the
characters.
The TARDIS lands on a distant future Gallifrey just outside the Panopticon. The crew emerges to find everything deserted. Jacie and Irish want to know when they are and what has happened, but the Doctor will not answer them, saying even he cannot know such things. Weeds grow outside the Panopticon entrance. The Doctor triggers the great door to open, which is does loudly being corroded with great age. Inside the Panopticon the lights are still on. The Doctor takes a key and opens the door to the Matrix control room. He inserts a code into a console and a nearby circuit explodes, but that is as planned. The security blocks going as far back as Rassilon is destroyed. Alarms ring out, but there is no one to answer. The Doctor turns off the alarms, and bids his companions seat themselves in front of a huge matrix screen. He explains that there may still be traps, and asks his friends to watch over him while he views the events of his past, and gives Jacie a kill switch to use on the Matrix if things get out of control.
The three Timelords discuss events of the recent past (war, regeneration gene, death of Omega - cause assumed to be an accident - and the creation of time travel}. They review the competing proposals of Lora and Morbius. Omicron favors the plan of Morbius because it will bring order to the universe, but only under the direction and leadership of Rassilon. He expresses distrust of Morbius as undeserving of command. While Zamona remains silent Rassilon expresses his doubts about both plans. He is concerned that the plan of Morbius has no greater goal than power, and that conquest of the universe is possible but pointless -- the Timelords have nothing to prove to anyone. Rassilon expresses fear of other forces they have yet to discover, and is concerned that the creation of a universal Gallifreyan empire may call attention to other beings they have not yet encountered -- beings which they might not be ready to face. He indicates that they just barely won the war with the vampires, so should not be so sure.
Morbius rants about the glory of his plan and his vision for universal domination. He also rants against the soft-headed and do-good plans of Lora. He expresses his hatred of Theta, who stands aloof from people of action like himself, and questions how he puts up with the fanatical nurturing Lora. Gimel agrees with Morbius, and goes on a rant of his own against all opponents of Morbius. Morbius praises Gimel for being a trusted henchman of Rassilon, a double agent who can help trigger the downfall of Rassilon and the rise of Morbius when the time is right. Morbius would prefer bringing Rassilon on board with his plan before arranging for his death, and Gimel agrees -- they can then use the legend of Rassilon to forward their own plan. Gimel then falls into fantasizing about the death of Lora. Morbius then declares that Lora is the real threat, that her pathetic plan of universal nurturing must be destroyed first. In a string of sexist epithets he declares that Lora must die before she can persuade the High Council.
Lora is laying out her arguments to Theta, the arguments she will use to persuade the High Council and Rassilon to go along with her plan for Gallifrey and the universe. Theta listens and comments, but eventually wanders and suggests that perhaps they seek to do too much, and perhaps they should consider retiring from politics and concentrating on living well, watching their child and coming grandchild, and enjoy the wonders of existence. Lora is sympathetic, but states that they are at a critical time in the life of the universe, and they cannot just ignore possibilities and potentials. She describes her feeling of obligation to all life in the universe, to protect and nurture it. Theta chides her for trying to be the Universal Mother, but notes that she is certainly well-qualified for that role. Just then their daughter, Susanamonea, arrives. They hug and greet, and ask about the baby. Susanamonea tells them that it will be a girl, and they have decided to name her Susan, since Susanamonea has tired of her
