Background

WHAT HAS GONE BEFORE: One year ago in normal space-time, the Universe endured the worst tragedy it ever forgot… in the supernova explosion of Odin's Eye the Doctor died.

Together with Irish and new companion Fred, the Doctor visited one of his favorite destinations finding it anything but the lush recreation world it once was. What's more, his old friend Drax not only didn't know him but ran from him in fear. Director Dilfries is doing everything he can to survive a crushing galactic curfew, even harboring and trading with retrograde travelers. But when an ominous temporal incursion appears on his beach (not to far from Drax and the Doctor), he knows his secret trade may have a terrible price.

BACKGROUND: Vega Prime, a mostly water planet, was once home to a luxurious resort (two towers connected by a multi-story recreation center) on the satellite planet of Trellorious Major in the distant alpha Sector of space. It is located at a crucial juncture between the known "civilized" worlds of the Galaxy and the as yet "untamed" worlds of the exploratory sectors. Most of the space traffic was comprised of space privateers and star miners who took government grants to conquer remote space.

The resort has fallen on hard times no longer attracting the wealthy to its casinos. The glitzy attractions are in bad disrepair. The once long and beautiful fishing pier is in ruins. The place looks like a run-down flea-bitten hotel. Even the once beautiful crystal blue waters that teamed with the intelligent Seaphant aquatic life are a dirty and dull gray.

Eos, picture of Doctor's new companion"Fred" (Eos) - [David] - a member of the race of energy beings known as "The People".  After establishing a rapport with Irish, she risked her life to save him and the Doctor.  She has taken the human name of Winnifred Stephanie O'Connell ("Fred" for short) for herself.

Sally-Anne "Bubbles" M'Gee - formerly a waitress in the bustling resort casino, she's taken on the job of the Director's secretary. She's one of the few remaining staff at Vega Prime, mostly because she has nowhere else to go.

Drax - a Gallifreyan classmate of the Doctor's, he dropped out of the Academy before finishing his doctorate and chose to travel the universe as an intergalactic fix-it man. He's recently fallen on hard times and the wrong side of undisclosed persons.

BEGINNING

ESCAPE ON BEACH (Drax, Fred, Doctor, Irish with the Director & Sally-Anne)

As they run along the beach, chased by the temporal incursion whirpool, Drax splits off from the main group and up the steps toward the recreation deck. The Doctor yells after him and Fred speeds up. She trails Drax up the steps and out of sight of her friends.

The Doctor and Irish get tripped up by a sudden massive wave that levels part of the disintegrating pier. When they come up for air, they find Fred and Drax gone but Director Dilfries and Sally-Anne there.

MIDDLE

RECREATION DECK (Drax & Fred)

Drax frantically flees the Time Scoop and the girl following him. He wanders onto the Pool Deck and spots the TARDIS with Fred hot on his heels. Before she can stop him, he jimmies open the doors and disappears inside. Fred jumps in after him and struggles to keep him from operating the TARDIS controls. Drax acts like a hunted animal. He uses a makeshift weapon (one of his tools perhaps) to subdue Fred. Then he activates the demat sequence.

BEACH REUNION (Doctor, Irish, Director Dilfries)

The Doctor recognizes and thanks Director Dilfries for coming to their rescue. Once again, the Doctor is not recognized. But when he mentions being here and helping with that business with the cybermen, along with Irish and his friend Jacie, the Director’s memory sharpens. Dilfries and his secretary share an alarmed look. Irish senses troubling things from Voice and warns the Doctor she is being burglarized. He heads off for the recreation deck with the others in hot pursuit. They get there just in time to see the TARDIS dematerialize.

ENDING

RECREATION DECK (Doctor, Irish, Dilfries and Sally-Anne)

The Doctor is furious; Drax stole his TARDIS. The Director says he couldn’t have gone far with the curfew. Probably no more than a few parsecs. Unless the Squids got him, Sally-Anne darkly adds. Squids?, Doctor asks. Dilfries looks around (there’s no sign of the scoop but that doesn’t mean they aren’t being watched) then tells the Doctor he’s best getting off this planet as soon as possible. The Central Authority will be getting a report soon enough and he simply can’t make up anymore excuses for the Doctor’s kind. Irish grumbles about the inhospitality of the resort; the Doctor points out they can’t go anywhere without their ship. Sally-Anne remembers the other retrograde’s ship is still tucked away in the storage lockers.

They head for the lockers down by the beach and find Drax’s damaged and disused TARDIS. Irish doubts it’ll go anywhere, but the Director is eager to see them go. Sally’s portable phone rings… it’s the CA. She stalls while Dilfries gives the Doctor a few last minute tips. Head for the red planet 5th from the last sun in the system. The curfew hasn’t extended that far. The Doctor wants to know more, who is behind this curfew? Sally is having a hard time delaying the CA officer; they’re threatening to send a team. Dilfries has time for only one last warning: “The Doctor is dead. If you are him, you were better off that way.” Dilfries takes the portable phone from Sally-Anne and walks off trying to make peace with the CA Liaison with tons of excuses for the recent disturbances. Sally merely glares at the strangers and follows her boss. Abandoned, the Doctor and Irish do the only thing they can – depart in Drax’s TARDIS and try to find out what has happened here.

DOCTOR’S TARDIS (Fred & Drax)

Fred regains consciousness to see the TARDIS entering the space-time vortex. She’s been immobilized, but sees Drax manning the controls. She tries to reason with him. He’s having a hard time. The old Type 40 navigation system is being stubborn. It refuses to accept his spatial-temporal coordinates. Fred offers to help if he frees her. She realizes he’s frightened and tries to assure him they will help. Drax takes the time to do a bioscan of her and confirms she is not “one of them”, but there is something odd about her biosignature. He accuses her of being a hunter, working for money or worse idealism. That’s enough for him not to trust her. In fact, he concludes he’d probably have better luck with the TARDIS if she wasn’t around to distract him. Drax approaches her menacingly, but before he can act on his threat the TARDIS jerks wildly. Alarms sound. A loud whirring sound is heard reverberating throughout the ship. With horror, Drax realizes they are being caught in a time eddy! He rushes to the controls and rips out something under the panel (it looks very familiar to the recall circuit). The console explodes knocking Drax unconscious and freeing Fred. All of a sudden things fall silent and the TARDIS landing beep chimes.

Next time...

Fred and Drax have materialized in the Doctor's TARDIS, but where? A curfew is in place in the Universe and the only place free of control is a distant planet. But where law and order can not extend, what will the renowned and deceased Doctor find?
