The planet on Minyos 2 is preparing for a Millennium Celebration. It has been 1,000 years since The R1C had landed with the Minyon's Race Banks and the descendants of the crew of the P7E. After a mere 4 years in flight they had arrived on this new world. When internecine warfare had destroyed the original Minyos, the R1C had searched for eons to find the Race Banks to restart their culture. They endured regeneration thousands of times and all the suffering that entails in their devotion to The Quest. Imagine regenerating thousands of times not less than the voluntary 12 of this new age. Finally their devotion and suffering caused the gods themselves to take pity on them and one returned in his time chariot and with the help of this ancient one, a female warrior and their metallic familiar, The Quest was ultimately fulfilled.
Although there is some snobbery between the three classes. Those that can claim the noble ancients from the R1C as their forefathers, those who call themselves "The Chosen" because their ancestors had suffered as "Trogs" and the common crowd produced from the Race Banks. Society is at an unparalleled level of development, Few have any needs that aren't meet, peace is all encompassing due to the Pacification Rays and the scientists have even started to develop their own time travel experiments. What could possibly threaten the Minyons now?
The 11th Doctor - [Cody] tall, 6 foot man in his late 50's with gray curls, a wizened face, and sparkling blue eyes. He closely resembles his 4th
incarnation after being aged a bit by time and turmoil.
Ravena Shaw - [Jen] Virginian colonist, granddaughter of a local farmer now deceased. She is unmarried, a woman of 23 thus a spinster (by choice). She
lives on her family farm with her sister-in-law and nephew. Her brother (who owns the farm) is off fighting in Washington's army. Like the women in her
family, she practices the old traditions of home remedies and Irish white witchcraft.
Phineas - (Duncan) - 45, a gray haired (used to be red) scientist who has never undergone regeneration.
His blue eyes sees things many of his colleagues don't, so he is considered paranoid. A view that isn't hurt
by the fact that both his assistants are cousins of his and he can't stand visitors to his lab.
Phineas's lab assistants:
Robert - Chief assistant, in his mid 30's, closely resembles Phineas and thinks him a genius if not always sure of some of Phineas's more radical ideas.
William - A college grad student who is in awe of Phineas, who he considers the best and brightest Minyos 2 has to offer. He also has his family's red hair and blue eyes.
Kit O'Hara - The most popular field reporter for Pan-O-Vision holographic television news network. She looks like a beautiful girl in her mid 20's (is actually over 60 but already has regenerated five times), Her sweet always smiling persona is reserved for when on air, when not on camera she is polite to those above her and a foul beast to her unfortunate camera man.
Uri - Kit's camera man, keeps an unlit cigar in his mouth and his holo-cam on his shoulder ready to go. Ignores Kit's harangues and temper tantrums, perhaps that why he has lasted longer than any other one. Almost 4 months now.
Sophey Kless - A Grey templed woman in her second regeneration and the President of the Council of Minyos. As reasonable and as pragmatic as any elected official can be.
Polly - President Kless's personal assistant. She is strongly dedicated to the good of the people, just as long as it doesn't interfere with her personal gain in any way.
The Vorlox - An energy that feeds on negative thoughts and emotions. It attacks Minyos 2 because of their Pacification Rays and their experiments into time travel are a threat to it's very existence.
Citizens of Minyos 2 - as needed
Ghosts of Minyos 1 - They are trying to warn Minyos 2 of the Vorlox.
Ghosts from Minyos appear to the scientist Phineas, taking advantage of his
experiments in brainwave communication to warn him that an energy being called
the Vorlox will attack Minyos 2's Millennium
Celebration. Phineas tries to warn the police but they not only don't believe
him, they zap him with a Pacifier Ray. The failure of the ray proves to Phineas
that the attack has already begun. The celebration that night is disrupted be
the Vorlox. Phineas goes to the Quest Museum and sends out a distress call. A severely
malfunctioning TARDIS locks onto the distress call and carries the Doctor and
Ravena to Minyos 2. They find rioting mobs but the tracer the Doctor took from
the TARDIS guides them to Phineas. He fills them in on the situation including
the headbands he has created to block the influence of the Vorlox. Although the
Doctor at first insists he doesn't need any assistance with the Vorlox because
of his superior mind control. A bluntly honest Ravena and an approaching mob
help Phineas convince the Doctor to use the headband. They flee to the apparent safety
of the TARDIS. But the monitor soon reveals that some of the Minyons outside
have armed themselves with shield guns raided from the Quest Museum.
The Doctor takes on the air of a tenured professor and talks as if reading from a prepared lesson on the invulnerability of a TARDIS. As those armed with shield guns fire an opening volley, the TARDIS quakes, books falling from shelves, tables overturning. The Doctor quickly overrules himself saying that with it's current diminished capacity perhaps discretion would be the better part of valor. He tries to order Phineas and Ravena to hide in some distant part of the TARDIS. Ravena reminds the Doctor that his infernal machine is not working properly and that there is no where to hide. The Doctor turns on an external speaker and announces that he is surrendering. He then makes some quick adjustments to the console and ushers Phineas and Ravena through the internal door. But instead of joining them he locks the door, Phineas and Ravena find they are in a quite small corridor that still just leads to the door at the top of the stairs. But by the time they figure things out and re-enter the console room, they find the Doctor has gone locking the external doors from the outside.
The crowd makes room for those armed with shield guns and they fire at the TARDIS. From a window of a derelict building, Kit and Uri record all that happens, Uri is as cold and professional as ever but Kit can't help but speculate on the effect the holo's will generate on her exclusive expose on government incompetence during the Vorlox emergency. And despite her natural distrust of Secretary Polly, it would be nice to become the head of Propaganda, Public Information in President Polly's new administration. The Doctor emerges and surrenders to the armed men, the Vorlox, curious as to how they seemed to disappear from his mind's eye, orders them to its presence.
From inside the TARDIS, Phineas and Ravena watch the monitor as the crowd takes away the Doctor. Although they do surround the TARDIS they make no further attempt to destroy it.
The President has called a meeting in the War Room she had always hoped would never be used. While Secretary Polly begins to give a fallacious situation report she notices a file marked "Phineas" in the President's in-box.
Polly seamlessly switches horses in mid stream and informs everyone of several reports she has studied indicating not only an alien menace called the "Vorlox" but the research of a scientist named Phineas that could provide some defense against it. Polly suggests the appointment of a new cabinet position, the Head of Homeworld Security, which would be given control of all police, military, security personnel, all media, and the Department of Justice. That only someone who could coordinate all these different agencies would have a chance of defeating the threat of the Vorlox. Since she is the most briefed on the situation she "reluctantly" accepts the position.
Ravena and Phineas debate on what they should do. Phineas tries some of the
equipment he brought from the lab and discovers there are 2 headbands active
just outside of the mob. Working with Ravena they
adjust the TARDIS monitor and are able to locate Kit and Uri. Suddenly a light
on Phineas's comm link flickers and goes out. Someone has switched off the
Doctor's headband!
The chaos continues as the armed Minyons bring the Doctor to the Vorlox. He tries to question the Doctor but Phineas's headband blocks it. The Vorlox orders the headband removed and gleefully prepares to enter the Doctor's mind.
Phineas and Ravena listen as Kit is given a call by Polly, informing her of her new powers and telling Kit she only has to produce a fake show that President Kless knew in advance of the Vorlox's attack and she will be appointed the Official Media Voice for all of Minyos 2.
The Doctor faces an unprotected mind probe from the Vorlox! Phineas and Ravena have vital evidence of Secretary Polly's planned coup but are locked in the TARDIS, surrounded by a silent mob that could be activated at any time! Could this be the end?
