The planet on Minyos 2 is preparing for a Millennium Celebration. It has been 1,000 years since The R1C had landed with the Minyon's Race Banks and the descendants of the crew of the P7E. After a mere 4 years in flight they had arrived on this new world. When internecine warfare had destroyed the original Minyos, the R1C had searched for eons to find the Race Banks to restart their culture. They endured regeneration thousands of times and all the suffering that entails in their devotion to The Quest. Imagine regenerating thousands of times not less than the voluntary 12 of this new age. Finally their devotion and suffering caused the gods themselves to take pity on them and one returned in his time chariot and with the help of this ancient one, a female warrior and their metallic familiar, The Quest was ultimately fulfilled.
Although there is some snobbery between the three classes. Those that can claim the noble ancients from the R1C as their forefathers, those who call themselves "The Chosen" because their ancestors had suffered as "Trogs" and the common crowd produced from the Race Banks. Society is at an unparalleled level of development, Few have any needs that aren't meet, peace is all encompassing due to the Pacification Rays and the scientists have even started to develop their own time travel experiments. What could possibly threaten the Minyons now?
The 11th Doctor - [Cody] tall, 6 foot man in his late 50's with gray curls, a wizened face, and sparkling blue eyes. He closely resembles his 4th
incarnation after being aged a bit by time and turmoil.
Ravena Shaw - [Jen] Virginian colonist, granddaughter of a local farmer now deceased. She is unmarried, a woman of 23 thus a spinster (by choice). She
lives on her family farm with her sister-in-law and nephew. Her brother (who owns the farm) is off fighting in Washington's army. Like the women in her
family, she practices the old traditions of home remedies and Irish white witchcraft.
Phineas - (Duncan) - 45, a gray haired (used to be red) scientist who has never undergone regeneration.
His blue eyes sees things many of his colleagues don't, so he is considered paranoid. A view that isn't hurt
by the fact that both his assistants are cousins of his and he can't stand visitors to his lab.
Phineas's lab assistants:
Robert - Chief assistant, in his mid 30's, closely resembles Phineas and thinks him a genius if not always sure of some of Phineas's more radical ideas.
William - A college grad student who is in awe of Phineas, who he considers the best and brightest Minyos 2 has to offer. He also has his family's red hair and blue eyes.
Kit O'Hara - The most popular field reporter for Pan-O-Vision holographic television news network. She looks like a beautiful girl in her mid 20's (is actually over 60 but already has regenerated five times), Her sweet always smiling persona is reserved for when on air, when not on camera she is polite to those above her and a foul beast to her unfortunate camera man.
Uri - Kit's camera man, keeps an unlit cigar in his mouth and his holo-cam on his shoulder ready to go. Ignores Kit's harangues and temper tantrums, perhaps that why he has lasted longer than any other one. Almost 4 months now.
Sophey Kless - A Grey templed woman in her second regeneration and the President of the Council of Minyos. As reasonable and as pragmatic as any elected official can be.
Polly - President Kless's personal assistant. She is strongly dedicated to the good of the people, just as long as it doesn't interfere with her personal gain in any way.
The Vorlox - An energy that feeds on negative thoughts and emotions. It attacks Minyos 2 because of their Pacification Rays and their experiments into time travel are a threat to it's very existence.
Citizens of Minyos 2 - as needed
Ghosts of Minyos 1 - They are trying to warn Minyos 2 of the Vorlox.
Ghosts from Minyos appear to the scientist Phineas, taking advantage of his
experiments in brainwave communication to warn him that an energy being called
the Vorlox will attack Minyos 2's Millennium
Celebration.
Phineas tries to warn the police but they not only don't believe him, they zap him with a Pacifier Ray. The failure of the ray proves to Phineas that the attack has already begun.
The celebration that night is disrupted be the Vorlox. Phineas goes to the Quest Museum and sends out a distress call.
A severely malfunctioning TARDIS locks onto the distress call and carries the Doctor and Ravena to Minyos 2.
They find rioting mobs but the tracer the Doctor took from the TARDIS guides them to Phineas. He fills them in on the situation including the headbands he has created to block the influence of the Vorlox. Although the Doctor at first insists he doesn't need any assistance with the Vorlox because of his superior mind control. A bluntly honest Ravena and an approaching mob help Phineas convince the Doctor to use the headband.
They flee to the apparent safety of the TARDIS. But the monitor soon reveals that some of the Minyons outside have armed themselves with shield guns raided from the Quest Museum.
Secretary Polly maneuvers her way into being appointed to Head of Homeworld Security giving her command of all military, police and civil agencies. When the TARDIS is racked by a volley from the sheild guns, the Doctor hides his friends and surrenders to the crowd. Taken before the Vorlox, the Doctor is stripped of his protective headband and screams as the Vorlox probes his mind.
The Vorlox attempts to probe the Doctor's mind but is flooded with quickly changing images. Drashigs chasing him across a swamp, Daleks in shiny metal hallways, strange aliens wearing musty robes their brains exposed atop their heads... The Vorlox pulls back from this madness but is too fascinated to withdraw completely.
The crowd blocking any escape from the TARDIS, Phineas takes advantage of his historical studies on TARDIS functions and cross wires his comm link with the console. He then is able to contact Robert and William.
William and Robert have worked they're way through the wildness in the streets back to Phineas's lab. They have tried to contact Phineas with no success, but suddenly the link bleeps and they are talking with Phineas. He tells them what has happened since they were separated then instructs Robert to construct a disrupter device. When finished Robert and William head towards Kit and Uri's lair guided by Phineas and Ravena's use of the TARDIS monitor.
Phineas contacts his cousins and gives them plans for a disrupter. He shows Ravena how to read and scan with the TARDIS monitor. They are too busy to notice some of the crowd outside slip away.
The Doctor continues to intrigue the Vorlox with the bizarre images from his regeneration dementia. But when it relaxes and does a general scan the Vorlox discovers there are more blocked minds outside of the crowd around the TARDIS, he sends some of the crowd to investigate.
The President and Polly have a meeting. Polly says she has sent a military patrol to check out the laboratory of Phineas, they find the place in shambles but follow two men they saw leave the building. Polly hides that she knows the men are Phineas's assistants and recommends they be dispatched, but the President insists that they be followed in the slim hope they may show the way to either Phineas or the Vorlox, whomever they are working for.
As Uri is filming the TARDIS, Kit speaks pompously into her microphone. They are too self-absorbed to hear a dozen mind controlled Minyons sneaking up on them, they are jumped and a hopelessly outnumbered Uri tries to defend Kit.
They are saved by the arrival of Robert and William armed with shield guns. A melee ensues which the enslaved Minyons quickly lose. Their victory is short lived as the military patrol bursts in, firing wildly. The four escape but only after William is severely wounded. Robert contacts Phineas and he orders them to return to the lab and try to regenerate William.
Ravena and Phineas guide Robert and William to Kit's hideout. When Phineas orders them to take William back to the lab, Ravena argues that they should go to the underground government bunker instead. They are finally interrupted by the sounds of a struggle, Uri has taken the wounded William's shield gun. To the surprise of all, Uri agrees to take Kit to the bunker and confess everything to the President.
The Vorlox has tapped into the frequencies from the TARDIS and in a rage attacks the Doctor's mind. The Doctor tries to say he will give him no further information but the Vorlox just laughs, telling him he isn't torturing him for information, he is doing it for his own pleasure.
All tell their different stories but when Uri places the disrupter that Robert built on the table and suggests they call Phineas's lab to see how to use it there is a disturbance. Polly takes advantage of this to escape from the bunker. Ultimately with the help of Kit and Uri, links are established between the bunker, Phineas's lab and the TARDIS.
Phineas directs how to use the disrupter to break the Vorlox's control on the Minyons. They realise what it has made them do and they attack it's lair with such intensity that the vorlox can not feed on it is forced to withdraw inside it's own projected magnetic field. A forgotten and weak Doctor silently mouths the word TARDIS.
Phineas desperately tries to operate the dematerialization controls when suddenly the Time Rotor begins to rise and fall and the old familiar Varoommp varooommp starts.
Phineas uses some components from the TARDIS to establish an energy field to contain the gray hulk the Vorlox has become. And Ravena again nurses a devastated Doctor.
Under Ravena's care the Doctor is soon up and about and if not exactly clear headed at least apparently not further mentally damaged by his experience. The watery eyes and ease to tire belie his claims of sound health but he offers a quick TARDIS ride to Phineas so that he can see to his recovering cousin William. To Ravena's chagrin, neither the Doctor not Phineas seem to want to go to the gala celebration that President Kless has planned with her new Press Secretary Kit O'Hara and the new Security Chief Uri. The Doctor promises Ravena that some day he'll tell her about The Lone Ranger. He quickly sets the controls and then straightens up, he punches the dematerialization control brimming with confidence, but behind his back his other hand has crossed his fingers.
It is several weeks before they finish cleaning up both the celebration and the destruction of the riots. That is when someone finds Polly crushed at the bottom of an elevator shaft that was sabotaged during the riots. She was still clutching her clipboard.
