BACKGROUND

HART ISLAND- Over the years, Hart Islands has had prisons, a workhouse, hospitals, a Civil War internment camp, a boy's reformatory, a home for unwed mothers, a mental hospital, a Navy disciplinary barracks, a Nike missile base and other various facilities. Today it serves as a Potter's Field.

PREVIOUSLY

The Doctor added rooms for his crew each tailored to their particular backgrounds. He also added a retreat for himself and announced he had restored the TARDIS navigation system. To test the renovated TARDIS, the Doctor heads for New York City during the Revolutionary War so that Ravena may visit her brother. After accidentally opening the TARDIS doors before materialization is complete, the crew exits,
only for each one to find themselves alone and in different time periods

CAST

Phineas - (Duncan) - 45, a gray haired (used to be red) scientist who has never undergone regeneration. His blue eyes sees things many of his colleagues don't so he is considered paranoid. A view that isn't hurt by the fact that both his assistants are cousins of his and he can't stand visitors to his lab.

Hollie - the voice of the computer in Phineas's electronic valise. When asked a question the computer responds with information until ordered to stop. It takes everything literally and has no sense of humor.

Major James Francis - U.S. Army Air Defense Command, no nonsense by the numbers man. Still feels personally wronged that he was a General's aide at the Pentagon and wasn't assigned to combat duty during the Korean conflict. Thinks that the Cuban missile crisis is finally his chance to "nuke some commies till they glow in the dark."

First Sergeant Joe Moran - A veteran of WW II and Korea, he places the welfare of his men second only to accomplishing the mission. He is perpetually chewing on an unlit cigar.

Soldiers as needed.

Sgt. William Sullivan - 4th generation NYPC. A real "man of iron, club of steel" type, uses either his fists or one of his grandfather's "stories" to settle any problem.

"Brick" Davis - A 3rd time loser petty criminal. One time boxer has fists like hams and a glass jaw.

Frank Ross - Skinny as a rail, has never met a job he liked.

Eddie Bartlett - Arrested for a minor offense, volunteered for a cleaning detail supposedly to avoid the rough types in lock up.

BEGINNING

HART ISLAND (Phineas, Hollie)

Phineas tries to find where and when he is by checking the computer in his electronic valise. With the poor lighting, he switches his computer to vocal operation and response. After learning he is on Hart Island in October of 1962, the computer continues that it is the day that WW III began on Earth. Phineas having read up on Earth history so that he could more readily relate to Ravena, argues that WW III was avoided and ask how this could be. The computer (called Hollie) responds that in the time line that Phineas has entered, an accidental launching of Nike missiles during the Cuban missile crisis lead to the destruction of most of the planet. Phineas recalls the horrible demise of the original Minyos at the hands of it's own people and proceeds to try and prevent a similar fate for Earth.

MIDDLE

NIKE missile launch station (Major Francis, Sgt. Moran, 10 man squad of soldiers)

Due to the heightened alert of the Cuban missile crisis, the Army Air Defense Nike control station on David's Island has sent a special detachment to the launch station on Hart's Island.

Major Francis complains to his Sargent that there are civilians on the island during an alert. Sgt. Moran patiently explains that since the location of the base is Top Secret they can hardly force the prison work detail to leave and that the 3 acre base is protected by fences and barbed wire from the other 97 acres of the island.

DOC building site (Sgt Sullivan, Davis, Ross and Bartlett)

Sgt. Sullivan locks his 3 prisoners in a storage shed so that he can sack out in one of the offices of the abandoned buildings they are here to clean up. Inside the shed, Eddie Bartlett waits till the coast is clear before showing the others the tin shears he had stolen that morning. Ross wants nothing to do with any escape attempt, but Bartlett talks Davis into joining him.

EARLY ENDING

Nike launch site (Phineas, Major, Sargent, troops)

Phineas watches as a guard is set up. He readies his shield gun for light stun only and heads into the launch site to try and repair the electrical fault in the underground launch room before disaster strikes.

DOC shed (Bartlett, Davis, Ross)

Bartlett and Davis make good their escape, forcing Ross along so that he can't alert Sgt. Sullivan.

LATE ENDING

Nike site (Phineas, guards, later prisoners)

Phineas uses Minyan technology to easily avoid the guards and enter the underground bunker.

On the other side on site, Davis punches out 2 guards. Bartlett steals their weapons and forces Ross to open the underground bunker where he hopes to find a raft or use a radio to signal his gang. Ross protests he doesn't know how to break such a sophisticated lock, but when he finds it open (thanks to Phineas) he is quick to take the credit.

Abandoned building (Sgt. Sullivan)

After setting up a sleeping bag (and taking a wee nip from a small flask) Sgt. Sullivan checks on his prisoners. He discovers their escape and follows their tracks to the NIKE base.

NIKE bunker (Phineas, Major, Sgt. Moran, soldiers, prisoners)

Phineas ducks into a supply closet to avoid the soldiers. The prisoners unaware of the soldiers presence try yo break into the radio room. An inept Ross is randomly crossing wires hoping something will open the door. Suddenly a klaxon sounds as a warning light flashes. Emergency security measures are instituted and unnoticed in the confusion a series of lights flashes red as a dozen Nike Hercules 40kT warheads are armed!
