BACKGROUND

HART ISLAND- Over the years, Hart Islands has had prisons, a workhouse, hospitals, a Civil War internment camp, a boy's reformatory, a home for unwed mothers, a mental hospital, a Navy disciplinary barracks, a Nike missile base and other various facilities. Today it serves as a Potter's Field.

PREVIOUSLY

The Doctor added rooms for his crew each tailored to their particular backgrounds. He also added a retreat for himself and announced he had restored the TARDIS navigation system. To test the renovated TARDIS, the Doctor heads for New York City during the Revolutionary War so that Ravena may visit her brother. After accidentally opening the TARDIS doors before materialization is complete, the crew exits, only for each one to find themselves alone and in different time periods.

CAST

The 11th Doctor - [Cody] tall, 6 foot man in his late 50's with gray curls, a wizened face, and sparkling blue eyes. He closely resembles his 4th incarnation after being aged a bit by time and turmoil.

Ravena Shaw - [Jen] Virginian colonist, granddaughter of a local farmer now deceased. She is unmarried, a woman of 23 thus a spinster (by choice). She lives on her family farm with her sister-in-law and nephew. Her brother (who owns the farm) is off fighting in Washington's army. Like the women in her family, she practices the old traditions of home remedies and Irish white witchcraft.

Phineas - (Duncan) - 45, a gray haired (used to be red) scientist who has never undergone regeneration. His blue eyes sees things many of his colleagues don't so he is considered paranoid. A view that isn't hurt by the fact that both his assistants are cousins of his and he can't stand visitors to his lab.

Dr Rodgers - A slight bald man with a neatly trimmed beard. He is of indeterminate age and is the chief of staff for Phoenix House.

Ray Bradford - A tall burly man in his early 30's. A councilor at Phoenix House, and a former heroin addict.

Father Callahan - An almost overly eager young priest, Phoenix House is his first posting.

Vic Mahoney - Middle-aged but looks even older from a lifetime spent on ferries.

BEGINNING

HART ISLAND (Doctor, Dr. Rodgers, Bradford)

The Doctor looks around, finding himself shy his companions but not alone as two figures appear over a hill. To his surprise they come running towards him calling out "Doctor! Are you okay, Doctor?"

They explain that they had found the ferry docked but empty and most of the staff were searching the island, so far no one else had been found.

They try to question the Doctor as to what has happened. The Doctor responds with the truth, he has no idea, he only knows he saw them coming toward him.

They mistake the Doctor for a specialist they had requested. It appears that several of the patients had become almost comatose. They head for the center.

MIDDLE

Phoenix House (Doctor, Rodgers,Bradford, Father Callahan, Mahoney, staff and patients as needed)

When the Doctor and his party arrive at the center, they find that Father Callahan had found the ferry pilot wondering around the old isolation hospital. He was carrying an unknown man and kept mumbling about a knight that walked through walls.

Dr. Rodgers examines the unconscious man and declares that he is like the patients that were comatose. He fears he was right to call in a specialist instead of taking them to the mainland as it appears this strange disorder is contagious.

The Doctor tries to talk to the ferry pilot but can get little more than Father Callahan had. Dr Rodgers gives him a sedative, and as he is drifting away he starts to sing the nursery rhyme, "Humpty Dumpty". Dr Rodgers, Bradford, Father Callahan and the Doctor head for the lounge area for some coffee and to talk over what to do.

ENDING

Doctor's Lounge - (Doctor, Rodgers, Bradford,Callahan and staff)

Dr Rodgers and the others tell the Doctor how the previous morning, they had found a patient in a coma and that by lunch six others had also fell to the mysterious disorder. Now almost all the patients and some of the staff were also affected.

As the remaining staff enter they hear a scream. Rushing into the hall they find a nurse pointing to a wall but unable to speak, quickly she too becomes a victim. She started singing a Beatles song as she also received an injection and disappeared into oblivion.

The words mean nothing to the others but the Doctor tries to hide his alarm as he patches together the Pilot's story and the words the nurse sang. It was from "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill".

"... all American bullet-headed Saxon mother's son..." Combining a "knight" and "bullet-headed" he now fears the strange menace is a Sontaran warrior. And if the eternal battle between the Sontaran Empire and the Rutans had spilled over to this small island, the entire earth may be lost in the crossfire. The Doctor excuses himself and steps outside to watch the setting sun. Lost in contemplation the Doctor fails to notice as a strange glowing mass creeps up behind him and the closing theme swells.
